Blaubeeren: A Gripping Journey into History and Humanity

Blaubeeren: A Gripping Journey into History and Humanity at Teatro Cervantes
Experience a profound theatrical masterpiece as Blaubeeren makes its way to the Teatro Cervantes in Málaga. Produced by Barco Pirata in collaboration with Producciones Teatrales Contemporáneas, this play is based on a script by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich, which was a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Under the direction of Sergio Peris-Mencheta, this production challenges audiences to confront the complexities of the past and our shared responsibility for the future.
The Story Behind the Lens
The narrative begins when an album of never-before-seen World War II photographs arrives at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. These images depict the daily lives of officers who administered Auschwitz, the most lethal concentration camp in history. As the story unfolds, it explores a chilling question: how does one live a mundane, everyday life right next to a site of mass extermination?
The discovery ripples across the globe, leading a German businessman to recognize his own grandfather in the photos. Consequently, he embarks on a journey to meet other descendants of Nazi officers, forcing him to face his family’s dark legacy.
A Call for Reflection
Director Sergio Peris-Mencheta leads a stellar cast, including Clara Alvarado and Víctor Clavijo, to bring this historical investigation to life. The play serves as a mirror for our own culture, asking what responsibility we hold for the unjust systems built by previous generations. Furthermore, it encourages us to examine our choices and reimagine a collective future through the lessons of the past.
In short, do not miss this powerful exploration of humanity in the heart of Málaga.
