January 13, 2026 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Carmen, Nada de Nadie: A Tribute to the Woman Who Shaped Spanish Democracy

Experience the extraordinary life of a political pioneer as Carmen, Nada de Nadie takes the stage at Teatro Cervantes. As part of the 43rd Theater Festival, this production honors Carmen Díez de Rivera, the first and only woman to serve as Chief of Staff for a Spanish Prime Minister. This play is a centerpiece of the “Teatro en Femenino” cycle, supported by the City Council of Málaga’s Equality Department.

A Life of Tragedy and Triumph

Born into the highest Spanish aristocracy, Carmen Díez de Rivera’s life mirrored the depth of a Greek tragedy. She renounced her class privileges to fight for her country’s future during the intense transition to democracy. On stage, actress Beatriz Argüello portrays Carmen as she reflects on her political career while grappling with the intimate family secrets that shaped her firm character.

Historical Significance on Stage

This production, directed by Fernando Soto, highlights Carmen’s decisive role in the legalization of the Communist Party and the preparation for Spain’s first democratic elections. Furthermore, the play earned the Llàntia for Best Authorship at the 2024 José Estruch Theater Awards. Consequently, audiences will witness a powerful narrative that restores a systematically relegated figure to her rightful place in history.

In short, do not miss this profound exploration of justice and conviction in the heart of Málaga.
