VALERY KATSUBA – Realismo Romántico

Valery Katsuba: Romantic Realism — A 25-Year Artistic Odyssey
Discover the powerful photography of Valery Katsuba at the Collection of the Russian Museum in Málaga. This landmark exhibition, titled “Romantic Realism I. Photographs (2000–2025)”, opens its doors from November 26, 2025, through May 30, 2026. It represents the first chapter of a significant two-part project. Consequently, it offers a rare look into twenty-five years of creative work by this acclaimed Madrid-based artist.
The showcase features over 40 large and medium-format analog photographs alongside selected videographic pieces. Visitors will be immersed in a world where the human body reflects beauty, memory, and the passage of time. Karen Smith, artistic director of the Shanghai Center of Photography, defined his style as “Romantic Realism”. This unique language captures reality without artifice while striving for the sublime through deep sensitivity.
Katsuba works exclusively with traditional analog cameras to explore the links between painting, sculpture, dance, and architecture. His poetic images cover a global landscape, spanning from St. Petersburg and Madrid to Mexico and New York. Furthermore, the artist revisits specific locations that are central to his own emotional biography. Curated by Sebastiá Mascaró and the artist himself, this exhibition provides a profound reflection on the dignity of the body and the strength of artistic traditions.
