AM CB: A Powerful Artistic Dialogue at Centre Pompidou Malaga

Experience a profound connection between two of France’s most influential contemporary artists. From November 20, 2025, through April 6, 2026, the Centre Pompidou Malaga presents “AM CB”. This temporary exhibition highlights the shared languages and distinct methods of Annette Messager and the late Christian Boltanski. Although they were life partners, they rarely showcased their work together during their careers.

This exhibition brings together approximately thirty major works from the Centre Pompidou collection in Paris. The display covers over five decades of creative output, spanning from 1968 to 2022. Visitors will find a wide variety of artistic mediums. These specifically include experimental photography, artist books, and large-scale mixed-media installations. Furthermore, the works explore deeply human themes such as memory, childhood, and the fragile nature of our existence.

The journey through the gallery is structured to reveal visual and conceptual affinities between the two artists. For example, Boltanski’s focus on the “ordinary” and the “reliquary” meets Messager’s interest in the “imaginary” and the “vocabulary”. Consequently, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see how these two giants of art stimulated and challenged one another.
