Gibraltar is the easiest trip abroad from Marbella, and since 15 July 2026 you can walk across the Border from La Línea without routine checks. Coaches from Málaga are the cheapest and private or VIP tours pick you up on the coast. The cable car is closed until 2027, so tours take you up the Rock by minibus.
Best with kids or a big group: a private day for up to 15. Children aged 4 and under enter the Nature Reserve free.

Gibraltar sits about 1 hour 5 minutes west of Marbella by car. It is British, it uses pounds and it has wild apes. In one day you can see the Rock, the caves and the tunnels, and still shop on Main Street.
The big choice is how you get there. A coach is cheap but most leave from Málaga. A private driver guide costs more but starts at your door. Or drive to La Línea, walk in and join a Rock tour. Every price and rating below shows the date we checked it.

Group coaches are the cheapest. You share a coach of up to about 55 people and get free time in town. Most budget coaches start in Málaga, and the Rock is often an extra.
VIP and private tours collect you on the coast and include the Rock. Prices are per person. For a family of four, compare one private price with four coach tickets plus a Rock tour each.
Rock tours in Gibraltar suit anyone with a car or happy to take a bus to La Línea. Walk in and the tour starts in town.

The Upper Rock is a nature reserve. One ticket covers its sites, wildlife and trails. That includes St Michael’s Cave, the Barbary macaques and the Great Siege Tunnels.
Check what your coach includes. The two budget coaches in this guide do not include the reserve unless you choose the Rock Tour option. The VIP day, the private highlights tour and the minibus Rock tour include reserve tickets. On the walking tour you pay the £30 entry on the day, by card only.
The reserve is closed on 25 December and 1 January. It closes early, at 15:30, on 24 and 31 December.

Boats leave Marina Bay to look for dolphins in the bay. The Dolphin Adventure tour lasts 75 minutes and is rated 4.8 out of 5 from 2,009 reviews, from €33.45 per person. For something faster, the high speed RIB tour runs for 1.5 hours past Gorham’s Cave, from €58.54 per person (4.8 out of 5 from 70 reviews). It needs 6 passengers to run.

Main Street runs from Casemates Square through the old town and is the shopping heart of Gibraltar. Most coach tours give you free time here. The VIP day in this guide builds in shopping time too.

Meet in Málaga tours start in the city. Check the exact meeting point on your booking and allow for traffic. Avanza runs direct and express buses from Marbella bus station to Málaga in about 45 minutes. Check times on avanzabus.com.
Meet in Gibraltar tours start in town. Drive or take a bus to La Línea de la Concepción, then walk across the Border. Parking in La Línea is tight and traffic is now the main delay, so leave early. Vehicles leaving Gibraltar use two direct exit lanes from 9 October 2026 (HM Government of Gibraltar).
Children aged 4 and under go into the Nature Reserve free, and ages 5 to 11 pay £22. For four or more, a private day for up to 15 sets the pace around breaks. GOV.UK advises a signed consent letter for children travelling without both parents. Keep food out of sight near the apes.
